Introduction to Haskell Alternatives

Haskell is fully cum purely functional computer programming language which is a bit lazy and polymorphically statically typed. The main part is that it is purely different from other programming languages in wide aspects. It’s very difficult to know, and Haskell’s mastering requires hours, months. Without a suitable background in software science, it’s even difficult. In addition to this, Haskell can’t be used for the growth of iPhone and Android. The language was initially drawn as a mathematical logic functional language named after Haskell brooks curry. Haskell is also based on lambda calculus. Haskell is specifically suitable for programs that need to be modified and maintained at a regular interval. In this way Haskell generated their users as they offer many advantages to users which are :

  • Using Haskell one can certainly increase their programmer productivity.
  • Using Haskell one can write shorter easier and highly efficient and maintainable code.
  • In Haskell, we get really few errors with very high reliability
  • There is really a very minute semantic gap between the programmer and the programming language
  • Haskell really has a very shorter lead time.

But in today’s era, we have a number of alternatives for the Haskell programming language. So in this article, we will be discussing eight Haskell alternative programming languages in a short brief. Some of the Haskell alternatives which we will be discussing are Java, Lua, Dart, Scala, Kotlin, Haxe, Nim, Asp.net, etc. Let’s start discussing each of them in brief.

List of Haskell Alternatives

Below is the different Haskell Alternatives which are as follows:

1. Java

Java consists of much more from libraries and dependency management, developers tools & IDEs, building, maintaining, profiling, debugging, deployment and monitoring to performance, scaling, stability and backward compatibility. Java’s efficiency is much higher than Haskell’s; it’s fairly simple to comprehend the CPU price of a specified piece of Java software because it’s not so far away from the equipment. Looking at a lot of Haskell code, it’s much difficult to forecast if the compiler is going to be prepared to optimize the software to something that fits the computer beautifully.

  • Minecraft, one of the biggest blockbuster purchased and played videogame was originally written in Java programming language.
  • Java implementations are now made to be public use under the General Public License.
  • It is open-source and free of cost.
  • It is probably the most well-documented programming language in the world.
  • Works on nearly every operating system like Mac, Windows or UNIX, etc.

2. Python

Python provides a wealth of styles to the programmer including procedural, functional and object-oriented styles. To develop desktop and internet apps, we can use the programming language. We can also use Python to develop complicated apps in science and numerics. Learning Python exposes you to a wide range of libraries ranging from system programming to web programming, which can make you easily productive. It’s also a multi-paradigm language, making it flexible for different thinking styles.

  • It is an Object-oriented Language
  • It has a key factor of garbage manipulations.
  • Python is a high-level language that is nowadays used for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Python is based on the modern modular system so we can make a rapid application development.
  • Works on nearly every operating system like Mac, Windows or UNIX, etc.
  • It is also open source and free of cost.

3. Ruby

Ruby has a large tool and library ecosystem for almost any use. Such as ORMs (Active Record, DatabMapper), Web Application Frameworks(Rails, Sinatra, Volt), Virtualization Orchestration(docker-API, relic), CLI tools(Thor, Commando) and GUI Frameworks(Shoes, FXRuby). Ruby is one of the most popular website development languages. As a result, there is plenty of documentation, sample code, and libraries available to learn the language and run your project.

  • Ruby is listed in My Server, Software for my Windows, #Gamedev, and Programlarim.
  • It is also an object-oriented programming language.
  • It is also open source and free of cost and works on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc nearly all operating systems.

4. Scala

Scala is a programming language for general purposes that supports functional programming as well as object-oriented programming. It has a static type system and is designed to be concise. Scala supports JVM, JavaScript and LL VM. Scala’s linguistic interoperability with Java is a strong selling point, allowing a large pool of existing libraries to be reused.

  • It is a Compiled Language, Functional Language & Object-oriented Language.
  • It is based on the Java virtual machine.
  • It is also open source and free of cost and works on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc nearly all operating systems.

5. PHP

PHP Post service is user-friendly and can be modified with JSON information. And we can sustain lengthy information activities with lazy-loading this service. Hosting PHP is inexpensive. With PHP, we can readily create websites, internet applications, server scripts, and particular purpose programs.

  • PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development.
  • It can also be embedded in HTML.
  • PHP is listed in Linux, MySoft, My Server, xenmaster’s learn-how-to-code tools, and Raspberry Pi.

6. Nim

Nim is alike Haskell, it is a statically typed very powerful programming language with its own multi-channel powerful macro system that gives you all the power with no compromises on runtime efficiency. Its an imperative object-oriented programming language with cross-platform compatibility with python like a significant indentation. Some features of Nim are :

  • It is a High-performance garbage-collected language
  • Indent-based syntax with python-like readability.
  • Compiles to javascript, c, c++.
  • Nim has a dependencies free binaries
  • It is also open source and free of cost and works on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc nearly all operating systems.

So there are much more alternative to Haskell like D, Dart, C, C++, Go, Rust, Perl, etc but in my opinion above were the genuine alternative to Haskell in present time.
