About Agha

Agha was an Indian actor best known for his roles in the Hindi films of the 1940s and 1950s. He began his career as a theater actor in the early 1930s. He made his debut in film with Stree Dharma, also known as Painted Sin (1935). People remember him for his roles in Karwan-e-Husn (1935), Anuradha (1940), and Rangila Mazdoor (1938). He gained fame for his versatility, portraying hero, villain, and comedian roles with equal ease. He was also an accomplished singer and musician credited with introducing the sitar to Bollywood music. He passed away in 1992.

Early Life of Agha

  • Fatima Nagar in Pune was the place in 1914 where Agha was born.
  • Father lived priorly in Iran but then moved to Pune, where agha was born further, in search of employment, Agha’s father and his family moved to Bombay.
  • Agha attended schooling just for three days as he was not quite interested in it.
  • From a very early age, he had a deep interest in horse riding and loved horses. He wanted to become a jockey.
  • Later, he joined a drama group which was in his neighborhood.
  • He got interested in an acting career as a production manager for the Kanwal Movietone.

Even after working on more than 200 movies throughout his career, Agha had won none of the awards. He acted as a supporting character in numerous films. He got nominated for the movie Ghunghat as the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1960 but did not win it.

Death

Agha died on 30 April 1992 of a heart attack in Pune, Maharashtra, India, at the age of 78. He was survived by three daughters, one son, Jalal Agha, and Son-in-law actor Tinnu Anand.
