VueScan is a type of computer program which deals with the scanning of images and especially used for Photographs including their negatives. It works on optical character recognition of text documents also. You can use it free of cost but it adds a watermark on scans image until you purchase a license of it. Whereas SliverFast is a name of a group of software that works on scanning and processing images, including documents, slides, and photos. So both software used for scanning and processing of images and text document but in their own way and we will discuss a number of things about this software in this article for analyzing them.

VueScan and Silverfast have different parameters and features for performing their work in an effective manner so let us have look at the basic characteristics of both software so that we have basic information about them.

Comparison between VueScan and Silverfast

VueScan Silverfast
Definition It is image scanning as well as processing software that works especially for photographs and their negatives. It is also image processing and scanning software and includes the processing of documents, slides, and other photos.
Developer and initially released dated It was developed by Hamrick Software (Ed Hamrick, David Hamrick) in 1998, 23 years ago for image scanning and processing purpose. In 1995, 26 years ago it was initially developed and its developer was LaserSoft Imaging.
Latest or currently stable version 9.7.36 was its latest release and launched on October 31, 2020. On December 23, 2019, its latest or current stable version was released and named as 8.8. or 18
Operating system It is compatible with a number of operating systems such as Windows XP and its later version, Mac OS X Panther and its later versions, Ubuntu Linux 8.10 and its later version, Red Hat Linux 9 and its later versions. You can run it on different operating systems which makes it compatible with different systems and these are Windows XP and its later versions, Mac OS X 10.5, and its later versions.
Type It can categories under Image scanning and optical character recognizing software. You can categorize it in Image scanning and image processing software.
License It has Shareware license type. It has a commercial proprietary software license
Supported languages Its previous version supports only the English language but its latest version supports 24 languages which makes it more accessible to different users. It is multi-lingual software so available in many different languages. You can check it by visiting its official website.

Key Difference between VueScan and Silverfast

This part of the article will cover lots of information about this software such as the price of them or how you can have its subscription? How do they work? And many more things you will get in this section.

The price of both software is our first concern so for having VueScan start working with it you can go with two different packages which are offered by it. The first one is the Standard Edition package and you can have it by paying $39.95 and the second one is the Professional edition which you can have by paying $79.95. In the professional edition, you will have unlimited free upgrades, support for raw scan files, advanced IT8 color calibration. It also offers a free trial to its users with all advanced features so that users can understand its interface first before start working on it.

Whereas if we talk about Silverfast then it offers different type of package such as for SilverFast HDR to HDR studio upgrade, you have to pay $199, for SilverFast HDR to HDR studio Photoproof pay $679, for SilverFast Ai 6.x to HDR studio ( for upgrade) pay $399, for full version pay $499.

SliverFast is expensive software and gives you the good color of the scanned image and also offers a smooth working environment to its users while VueScan is inexpensive image scanning and processing software that can give the best high quality of raw scan but the color is not as good as SliverFast can give. You can increase its color quality by pairing it with ColorPerfect.

SliverFast can scan 23, 5 sec (pre-scan) and 3 min 20 sec. (with IR) and for NLP conversion from Silver fast Tiff, it takes 9, 5 sec. VueScan can do a scan of 15 sec (for preview) and 2 min 4 sec. (with IR). For NLP conversion from VueScan DNG it takes 10, 5 sec. (these are a time for one photo scan)

VueScan can make 16-bit files while SilverFast can make only 8-bit files and VueScan files are 108 MB per photo whereas SilverFast gives 54 MB.

VueScan creates DNG raw file and SilverFast creates Tiff files. If you want to adjust highlights and shadows of any image then in SilverFast you can do it by using Histogram features of it while in VueScan it takes a little bit more steps to do this.
