#1 Agumbe Rainforest

  • Agumbe Rainforest is a rainforest in the Thirthahalli taluk of Shimoga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is one of the few remaining rainforests in the Western Ghats. It is on the peak of the Western Ghats, at an elevation of 830 m above sea level.
  • The Agumbe Rainforest is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is a popular tourist destination famous for its breathtaking views and tranquil atmosphere.
  • The Agumbe Rainforest is a protected area and is part of the Agumbe Rainforest Reserve. The Karnataka Forest Department manages it to protect the forest’s biodiversity and ensure its sustainability.

#2 Jog Falls

  • Jog Falls is present near Sagara Taluk in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. The falls are a significant tourist attraction and rank 13th worldwide by the waterfall database.
  • The Sharavathi River, which drops at 253m (830 ft), forms the Jog falls, making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls, with a height of 335m (1100 ft). The Sharavathi, flowing over a very rocky bed about 250m (820 ft) wide, reaches a tremendous chasm, 290m (950 ft) deep, and then suddenly plunges into it.
  • The best time to visit Jog Falls is during the monsoon season, when the falls are in full flow and the surrounding area is lush and green. The waterfall is accessible by road from Thirthahalli, a town in Shimoga district, about 24 km away. The area around Jog Falls is also home to several other attractions, including the Keladi Temple, the Kodachadri Hills, and the Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.

#3 Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary

The Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is in the Shimoga District of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is on the banks of the river Tunga and is famous for its bird population, which includes the painted stork and other migratory birds like the open-billed stork, woolly-necked stork, and cormorant. The sanctuary is over an area of 2.5 hectares and is home to more than 50 species of birds.

#4 Kavaledurga Fort

The Kavaledurga Fort is near Thirthahalli in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. It is on a hill at an altitude of 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) and surrounded by lush green forests. The Keladi Nayakas in the 16th century built the fort as a military outpost. The fort has four gates, one each on the east, west, north, and south sides.

Visitors can also explore the fort’s historical monuments and sites, including ancient temples and an old watchtower. #5 Nagara Fort

Nagara fort is a historical fort in Thirthahalli taluk of Shimoga district, Karnataka. It is on the banks of the Tunga River and is one of the most important historical sites in the region. The fort has witnessed many battles and wars fought by the region’s rulers and is an important tourist attraction in Thirthahalli. The fort consists of two parts: the inner and outer fort.
