Introduction to After Effects

After Effects was released in 1993 January which is 26 years ago, in this 26 years after effects has developed a lot of versions, 1993 to 1996, after-effects were available only on Mac, the first version for Windows, was introduced in May 1997, this software was developed by three companies, from 1992 – 1993 CoSA was the developer of this software, and in this period after effects 1.0 and 1.1 was developed in 1994, Aldus develops two versions of after effects 2.0 and 2.0.1 then from 1995 to present Adobe hand over after-effects and developed lot of versions, the first version of Adobe after effects are 3.0.

Ok, let’s go in detail and see the versions and features of after effects till now:

1. Developer CoSA

CoSA developed the very first version of After-effects 1.0 in 1993 January, and it worked only on Mac, the code name of this version is Egg.

After Effects 1.1 was developed in 1993 May with more features than 1.0. And its Features were Effects, Keyframes, Transforms, layer compositing with the mask.

2. Developer Aldus

Aldus Corporation was a software firm that developed software for desktop publishing. It is well known for producing PageMaker, an early application in the area of desktop publishing.

After Effects 2.0 was developed by Aldus in 1994 January, the code name of this version is Teriyaki, and the Features are Motion blur, multi-machine rendering, Frame blending, Proxies, Time layout window, image sequence support.
After Effects 2.0.1 was developed in 1994 May. And Only one feature is added in this version called Power Macintosh Version (PPC).

3. Developer Adobe

From 1994 Adobe handed over After effects and developed a lot of versions with many features.

Adobe After Effects 3.0 was introduced in 1995 October; the code name of this version is Nimchow. And its features are Keyframe assistances (wiggler, Motion sketch, smoother), Render queue, multiple effects per layer, advanced keying, layer transfer modes, continuously rasterize illustrator files, motion maths, bezier masking, time remapping, velocity graph, 1/2/4point motion tracking.

When adobe developed after-effects, they add many features that can be imported directly from photoshop and illustrator because those two products belong to adobe.

Adobe After Effects 3.1 was introduced in April 1996, its last Mac 64×0 version. And its features are Multiprocessing and file formatting.
Adobe After Effects 3.1 (windows95/NT) the first windows version from May 1997 and also the first French and German versions from November 1997, the code name of this version is Dancing monkey, and the Features are Path text and animated gif output for free register users of 3.1, contextual menu.
Adobe After Effects 4.0 on January 1999 the code name of this version is beer, and the Features are Ram preview, tabbed windows, movable time layout window, transform effects, adjustable layer, premier import, illustrator layers.
Adobe After Effects 4.1 on September 1999, the code name is Batnip, and the Features are 30,000 x 30,000 image support, separate text fill/stroke; we can save favorite effects (.ffx), flowchart view, 3D channel effect, sequence layers.
Adobe After Effects 5.0 on April 2001, the code name is Melmet; in this version, they introduced more 3D features like 3D light, 3D layer, dynamic preview, vector pain, expressions.
Adobe After Effects 5.5 on January 7th, 2002, the code name is Fauxfu, its first OS X version, and its features are Advanced 3D rendered, multi 3D view, adjustment layer light, zaxwerkes 3D invigorator, import camera data.
Adobe After Effects 6.0 on 2003 August the codename of this version is Foodfite. and its features are Open GL, Rotobezire, liquify, key light, enable photo text layer.
Adobe After Effects 6.5 on June 16th, 2004 the code name is Chambant. and its features are Video output from Firewire, disk caching, tracking the motion by scale, advanced clone tool, Grain management.
Adobe After Effects 7.0 on January 2006, the code name is clamchop, first Italian and Spanish version, and its features are  Time Wrap, Graph Editor, Autosave, Per-Character Blurring.
Adobe After effects CS3(8.0) on June 2nd, 2007; from this version, they add CS in every version, they introduce Creative suits.
Adobe After effects CS3(8.0.2) on February 2008 The code name is loafdot, they introduce Panasonic P2 Support.

Adobe After Effects CS4(9.0) on February 2008, the code name is chinchillada.
Adobe After Effects CS4(9.0.1) on December 10th 2008the code name is chinchidotta.
Adobe After Effects CS4 (9.0.2) on May 29th, 2009, the code name is lottadotta.
Adobe After Effects CS(9.0.3) on 6th October 2010, the code name is Yaddadotta.
Adobe After Effects CS5 (10.0) on April 30th, 2010, the code name is esgocart.
Adobe After Effects CS5(10.0.1) on 3rd September 2010, the code name is esgodot.
Adobe After Effects CS5(10.0.2) on April 8th, 2011, the code name is Egsodoh.
Adobe After Effects CS5.5(10.5) on April 11, 2011, the code name is Codname.
Adobe After Effects CS5.5(10.5.1) on June 30, 2011, the code name is codot.
Adobe After Effects CS6(11.0) on April 23, 2012, the code name is Sinaltapas.
Adobe After Effects CS6(11.0.1) on May 25, 2012, the code name is Bigdottom.
Adobe After Effects CS6(11.0.2) on October 12, 2012, the code name is NoneMoredot.
Adobe After Effects CC (12.0) on June 17, 2013, the code name is Sconehenge; from this version, adobe versions start with CC, which indicates the Creative cloud.
Adobe After Effects CC (12.1) on 31 October 2013, the codename is plabt blue ribbon.
Adobe After Effects CC (12.2) on 13 December 2013, the code name is pino butter.
Adobe After Effects CC 2014(13.0) on 18 June 2014, the code name is Goatmeal stout.
Adobe After Effects CC 2014.1 (13.1) on September 17, 2014, the code name is Hefe Marathon.
Adobe After Effects CC2014.2(13.2) on December 2014, the code name is Finish lime.
Adobe After Effects CC2015.0(13.5.0.347) on June 15, 2015, the code name is Mussel car.
Adobe After Effects CC2015.1(13.6.0) on November 30, 2015, the code name is current Time.
Adobe After Effects CC2015.2(13.7.0) on January 27, 2016, the code name is fibonachos.
Adobe After Effects CC2015.3(13.8.0) on June 21, 2016, the code name is Abbacore.
Adobe After Effects CC2017(14.0) on November 2, 2016, the code name is codfather.
Adobe After Effects CC2017.1(14.1) on January 18, 2017, the code name is The codfather part tuna.
Adobe After Effects CC2017.2(14.2) on April 19, 2017, the code name is plabtjacks.
Adobe After Effects CC2017.2(14.2.1) on June 13, 2017, the code name is blueberry plabjacks.
Adobe After Effects CC(15.0) on October 18, 2017, the code name is DarthTater.
Adobe After Effects CC (15.0.1) on January 22, 2018, Tater Dots’ code name.
Adobe After Effects CC(15.1) on April 03, 2018, the code name is Annivercelery.
Adobe After Effects CC(15.1.1) on April 24, 2018, the code name is Marching Ants on a log.
Adobe After Effects CC(15.1.2) on June 16, 2018, the code name is Peanut Dotter.
Adobe After Effects CC(16.0) In October 2018, the code name is Double expresso.
Adobe After Effects CC(16.0.1) In December 2018, the code name is Macchidotto.
Adobe After Effects CC (16.1) on April 02, 2019, the code name is cloak-o-nut.
