Bhutan’s tourist destinations have always drawn visitors from all over the world for their colorful culture and enigmatic mountains. The country of rolling green hills and enchanting culture exudes an irresistible charm. Delightful people, forests, massive mountains, and elite cuisine always provide a delightful experience. Some famous tourist places in Bhutan are listed below:-

#1 Buddha Dordenma

Buddha Dordenma is a massive golden Shakyamuni Buddha statue built to honor the anniversary of Bhutan’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuk. The monument stands atop a golden meditation room in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, overlooking the southern entry to Thimphu, the capital city. This figure has 125,000 little Buddha figurines. Buddhists regard it as a sacred location. People think Guru Padmasambhava mentioned this statue as the “second Buddha” in the seventh century.

To go to this statue, take a cab from any location in Thimphu.

#2 Taktsang Palphug Monastery

Tiger’s Nest, also known as Taktsang Monastery, is a must-see tourist attraction in Bhutan. They built the temple complex between 1692 and 1693. Bhutan’s cultural emblem, this monastery, lies 3120 meters above sea level in Paro Valley. It is unique and alluring because it perches on a cliff. Hills covered in lush green forest encircle Taktsang Palphug Monastery. Though getting to this lovely monastery may be difficult, it is well worth the effort.

Take a shared taxi to the beginning of the path that leads to the monastery. Ascend to the summit.

#3 Chele La Pass

Chele La will satisfy your senses if you like high-altitude mountain passes. And, if you want to see a beautiful example of nature’s aesthetics, Chele La will not disappoint. It is the highest motorable pass in Bhutan, rising about 4000 meters above sea level. This scenic location is 36 kilometers from Paro Town. This location’s magnificent beauty is beyond description. This pass connects Paro Valley to Haa Valley. Any photographer would be captivated by the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountain peaks from here.

#4 Punakha Suspension Bridge

Punakha is a historic town three hours from Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The Punakha Suspension Bridge, which spans the Po Chhu River, makes this town attractive. It is one of Bhutan’s longest suspension bridges, measuring 160m. This bridge links Punakha Town and Punakha Dzong. This picture-perfect bridge, covered in prayer flags, is a photographer’s dream. It offers beautiful views of the river running below and lush green hills all around it, with the mesmerizing Dzong in the background.

How to reach?

To get to Punakha, take a bus or taxi from Paro or Thimphu. The bridge is a short walk from the bus stop, and you can also rent a bike to travel there.

#5 Punakha Dzong

Punakha Dzong directly means “the palace of tremendous delight or bliss,” and a trip to this Dzong will show you why. The rulers of Bhutan crowned themselves here and constructed Punakha Dzong, which presently functions as the administrative capital of Punakha District, starting in 1637. The Dzong is historically significant. The Po Chu and Mo Chu Rivers meet at the Dzong, making it more attractive.

How to reach?

Travel to Punakha by bus or cab from Paro or Thimphu. Take a taxi or a bike to this location in Punakha.

Timings: 8 AM to 5 PM

Key attractions:

  • Sacred relics of the southern Drukpa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism’s Kagyu school
  • The intricate paintings and the architecture of the fort
  • Ngawang Namgyal’s sacred bones and the tertön Pema Lingpa.

#6 Chomolhari

Chomolhari, also known as Jomolhari, is a mountain on the boundary of Tibet and Bhutan, with a peak altitude of 7,326 meters above sea level. The sites from which you may see this mountain are among the top Bhutan tourist destinations. The locals often call this the “bride of the Kanchenjunga.” If you enjoy short hikes, this is an excellent choice. Bhutan’s best trekking season is from late March until the middle of June. The entire journey is quite demanding but easy.

To get to the starting point of the Chomolhari hike, take a taxi from Thimphu or Punakha.

You should see various tourist attractions and activities during your stay in Bhutan. Between October and December is the greatest time to come because most attractions are in peak form. If you want to see natural wonders, April and May are the finest months to go. If you visit in late May, you will see many rhododendrons in bloom, covering many valleys in many shades of color.
