Palani Temple

The Palani Lord Murugan Temple

South India is home to many well-known temples, including the Palani Temple of Lord Murugan. He is Lord Shiva’s first son. South India’s people worshipped him the same way as Lord Shiva. The Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple, located in Palani, Tamil Nadu, is one of the many temples devoted to Lord Murugan. It is an incredibly renowned temple.

The Murugan temple is in Tamil Nadu’s Palani town, part of the Dindigul district on Sivagiri Mountain, the taller of the two hills in the Palani Hills. That’s why people called it a Palani Temple. A huge crowd once gathered to worship Lord Murugan at Tamil Nadu’s well-known Palani Temple.

About Palani Temple

  • There are six main temples of Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu, known as Arupadai Veedu, Six Abodes of Murugan. The Palani Temple is also known to be the third home.
  • According to mythology, the idol of Lord Murugan is made with a mixture of nine poisonous substances that, when combined in a particular proportion, give an eternal remedy to heal people’s bodies and minds throughout this kali yuga.
  • A stone pedestal supports the idol of lord Murugan with an arch showing the god in the appearance he adopted at Palani.

Story Behind Palani Temple

Palani closely connects to lord shiva’s family’s oldest and most enduring tradition, Lord Shiva on Mount Kailash with Parvati and two sons, Ganesha and Kartikeya. An immortal sage, Narada, once visited Shiva, gave him a fruit and advised him to give it to his sons. But he suggested they must travel worldwide; whoever comes first will get this fruit.

Kartikeya did three rounds of the globe while sitting atop his peacock. Ganesha chose to take the more sensible path of action and claim that everything in the world is a creation of his parents; Shiva and Parvati are delighted by Ganesha and the fruit handed to him. When Karthikeya learned about this, Kartikeya became furious to realize that his efforts had been in vain. He moved away from Kailash and made a home in the Palani Hills of southern India. After needing to leave his boyhood behind, he meditated to better understand himself.
