Introduction to cPanel version

cPanel is a web hosting control panel software developed and designed by cPanel, L.L.C., an American corporation which is mainly used for facilitating management of any server hosted over the web. cPanel software provides a Graphical User Interface for end-user which simplifies the process of web servers and web hosting including some of the good automation tools. cPanel alone is not allowed to handle any of the administrative steps it must align and coordinate with WHM to take care of the entire server. cPanel contains some command line and API access which allows for third-party software installation and manipulation. In this topic, we are going to learn about cPanel version.

Versions of cPanel

There are many cPanel versions that exist but following the official document of the cPanel version which includes changelog and Releases notes it starts from cPanel version 54 to cPanel version 88 being the latest.

Following are the cPanel versions with their respective bug fixing and release :

1. 54.0.0 – 54.0.36

This cPanel version of 54.0.0 got released in 2016-01-04 with some of the bug fixes in the panel related to Domain search which got deprecated at the time of search and also PHP DSO handler package can be removed if EA4 Apache uses its MPM. Along with this, the cPanel version of 54.0.36 got released with fixes on password fixation used for the Munin MySQL account for testing.

2. 55.9999.61 – 56.0.52

This cPanel version got released on 2016-02-08 with some of the bug fixes in the panel with detection of remote server related to MYSQL. This release got improvised in an incremented manner for other releases where the release pattern is related to Database storage and vulnerabilities related to Password change and other interfaces. This version got released on 2017-09-18.

3. 59.9999.58 – 60.0.48

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2016-08-09 followed by its last release on 2017-09-18 with a lot of fixes and releases major in the latest series is SSL hostname verification is supportable and unnecessary third-party downloads are not available. Stored XSS vulnerability in MySQL databases.

4. 61.9999.55 – 62.0.48

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2016-11-10 followed by its last release in this series on 2018-06-25 with its major fix in this release is related to logic fixing related to LTS version, update in preferences, and UI configuration settings.

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2017-02-21 followed by its last release in this series on 2017-11-20 with its major fixes in this release with improvisation majorly towards many fixes related to address and directories which needs to be filled with the restoration of files and values.

6. 65.9999.38 – 66.0.35

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2017-04-17 followed by its last release in this series on 2018-01-22 with its major fixes in this release with some SRS secrets and its storage in the database.

7. 67.9999.64 – 68.0.39

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2017-08-04 followed by its last release in the series on 2018-05-21 with its major fixes in the release related to API tokens by ACLs that are being removed from the account with WHM cPAddons interfaces.

8. 69.9999.122 –  70.0.69

The cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2017-12-18 followed by its last release in the series on 2019-06-06 with its major fixes on the update Exim for 4.91-4.cp1170.

9. 71.9980.30 – 72.0.12

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2018-05-10 followed by its last release in the series on 2018-08-28 With major fixes related to IPV6 addressing and transfer protocols and database update or restore for MySQL series.

10. 73.9980.0 – 74.0.12

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on  2018-07-02 followed by its last release in the series on 2018-11-29 with many fixes and CVE references like CVE-2018-18311, CVE-2018-12015, CVE-2018-18312.

11. 75.9999.218 – 76.0.22

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2018-10-09 followed by its last release in the series on 2019-06-06 with many fixes and update Exim related 4.91-1.cp1170 with fixes in CVE-2019-10149.

12. 77.9999.110 – 78.0.49

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2018-12-18 followed by its last release in the series on 2020-05-18 with many fixes related to secret or credential storage and API enhancement with the VMs.

13. 79.9999.191 – 80.0.24

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2019-03-21 followed by its last release in the series on 2019-08-14 with changes and transition on the apache config, SSL certifications, and packages rebuild and formation.

14. 81.9999.242 – 82.0.19

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2019-06-20 followed by its last release in the series on 2019-11-19 with major changes and fixes related to support of password and shadow lookups for the file with line endings in windows.

15. 83.9999.115 – 84.0.22

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2019-08-27 followed by its last release in the series on 2020-03-16 with major changes and fixes related to bandwidth suspensions from mail logs, backup leaks to the current working directory.

16. 85.9999.120 – 86.0.37

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2020 -01-06 followed by its last release in the series on 2021-02-17 with major changes on the configuration side with configure service availability, the update of MySQL to 5.6.51-1.cp1186, and update of cPanel and WHM Pricing with a term agreement.

 17. 87.9999.92 – 88.0.17

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2020-03-23 followed by its last release in the series on 2020-09-17 with major changes in Self-XSS vulnerability In WHM edit zone interface, File overwrite via email quota cache, and then cron jobs interface and editor interface.

18. 89.9999.76 – 90.0.19

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2020-07-21 followed by its release in the series on 2020-12-15 with major changes in proper reporting and status quotient of Power DMS and case where the RPM database gets corrupted, removal of the authentication request and update of License agreement version 11-16-2020.

19. 91.9999.79 – 92.0.11

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on 2020-10-12 followed by its release in the series on 2021-02-09 with major changes in app config that can access php-fpm in WHM and add to ignore list of find_outdated_service.

20. 93.9999.106 – 94.0.1

cPanel version in this series got its initial release on  2021-01-05 followed by its release in the series on 2021-02-10 with many bug fixes like expose of password hash which already exists, improves in sender verification, and many more.

Conclusion

cPanel with WHM has made a lot of complex features present on the server as part of the web hosting as simple and concrete. It has given developers and administrators a lot of flexibility and versatility to get proper functioning and configuration for application and server to work properly. It has given the end-user a view to analyze and performs various experiments with servers hosted on the web.
