India is a country worth exploring, and its hills provide the tranquility rarely found elsewhere. We say this because, right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, every state and its hill stations are home to beautiful tourist places. Its beauty captivates both Indians and people visiting from other countries. One of those hill stations is Valparai, also called the 7th Heaven. It is located 3,500 feet above sea level in Tamil Nadu. Valparai gives you a breath of pollution-free air and is worth visiting as the place is full of dams, waterfalls, and tea gardens.

#1 Chinnakallar Falls

The breathtaking Chinnakallar Falls are located in Chinna Kallar town. It is approximately 14 km from the Valparai bus stand and is covered with narrow roads and dense forest areas. Home to the 3rd largest waterfall in the country, Chinnakallar is one of the unique tourist places in Valparai. There is a suspension bridge over the fall, from which visitors can enjoy the captivating view of waterfalls and vegetation.

#2 Anaimalai Tiger Reserve

This tiger reserve (earlier called the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary) is situated in the Anaimalai Hills in Valparai and Pollachi taluks. This reserve is home to rare animal species like the Indian leopard, brown mongooses, and sambar deer. There are around 250 bird species that stay in a protected habitat and feel at home. The Anaimalai Tiger Reserve is also a power supply source for various Tamil Nadu regions. Visitors can come any time of the year, but it is advised not to go during the summer due to severe rains. The tour package here starts at Rs. 6,800.

#3 Aliyar Dam

Visit Aliyar, and you’ll find an earthy dam to spend quality time with your family and partner. It is about 43 km from Valparai, but adding this to your itinerary can be a great idea if you are going there. This dam is one of the most recommended tourist destinations in Valparai and was built for irrigational purposes from 1959 to 1969. It would be a pleasant experience for the travelers as there are coconut orchards and a chance to go boat riding!

#4 Karumalai Balaji Temple

A temple is one of the most significant places to see in India, no matter where you are. In Valparai, you can explore the Karumalai Balaji Temple, covered with tea plantations. People from all over the country come here to seek blessings from Lord Balaji (also called Vishnu Ji or Venkateswara). Here pooja is performed every day, and you’d also get to see a beautiful tea garden arranged inside. Since there is no parking space near the temple, it is advisable to walk for around 500 m. Karumalai Balaji Temple has a sense of calmness and poise that people can meditate and relax here.

#5 Monkey Falls

Monkey Falls are natural and peaceful, making it one of the unique tourist places in Valparai. It is close to the city’s ghat road and about 30 km from Pollachi. If you travel from Pollachi to Valparai, you will come across these falls. Evergreen forests and cliffs surround the place. When the season is right, an excellent trekking tour is organized continuously for travelers to get a wholesome experience. As the name suggests, there’d be monkeys, so stay cautious. Here, an entry fee of Rs. 30 is levied.

#6 Hornbill Viewpoint

Hornbill Point is always on the list of must-see tourist attractions in Valparai. It is 10 km from Monkey Falls and so beautiful that you’d love to spend a few hours. The tranquil atmosphere at the Hornbill Viewpoint is always attractive to those who enjoy exploring nature. If you get lucky, you might catch a glimpse of hornbills sitting on the trees or flying.

#7 Karumalai Annai Velankanni Church

This catholic church is 10 km from the hill’s bus stand and is one of the most beautiful places to see. It is dedicated to Velankanni Matha, who was famous for performing miracles. Constructed in 2003, Karumalai Annai Velankanni Church has a chapel surrounded by tea plantations and foliage. Apart from that, a river called Iraichal Parai Falls flows next to the church and is the source of water for the Nadumalai River. This location is so beautiful that you won’t want to miss it.

If you want a wholesome experience of this hill station, spend at least three days here. You’d see some nicely fragranced tea gardens here and spend quality time around dams and waterfalls.
