Srinagar is the largest city in Jammu and Kashmir and the summer capital of India. It has a location in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of the Jhelum River. The natural environment, gardens, waterfronts, and houseboats are all well-known features of the city. For centuries, people have called Srinagar the “Venice of the East” due to its beautiful Himalayan range, houseboat-surrounded lakes, Shikaras, and Mughal architecture. #1 Dal Lake

Dal is a lake in Srinagar (Dal in Kashmiri means lake), one of the most important tourist places in Srinagar. The urban lake, known as the “Srinagar’s Jewel,” or “Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir,” is significant for tourism in Kashmir. The lake is also an important source of commercial fishing and water plant harvesting. Srinagar’s Dal Lake is also famous for its floating market (known as Raad), where vendors ride Shikaras and approach tourists with their most endearing handicrafts, edibles, saffron, and even ice creams in tow. Many tourists enjoy ice skating on the frozen Dal Lake during the winter. Dal Lake is also known as the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

#2 Shalimar Baugh

Shalimar Bagh in Srinagar is one of the most famous Mughal gardens in the Kashmir valley and has become the city’s crown today. Built as a symbol of love for his beloved wife Nur Jahan by Mughal Emperor Jahangir, this garden is an apt representation of the word ‘Shalimar,’ which translates to ‘Abode of Love.’ This garden was once a favorite summer retreat for Emperor Jahangir and his court. This stunning masterpiece, also known as the ‘house of love,’ was initially known as ‘Farah Baksh,’ which translates to ‘delightful.’

#3 Tulip Garden

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar is Asia’s most extensive tulip garden and another best Tourist Places in Srinagar, covering approximately 30 hectares with a stunning view of Dal Lake. It opened to the public in 2007 to improve floriculture and tourism in the area. The initiative succeeded tremendously and named the beautiful garden one of the top five tulip gardens in the world in 2017.

Blessed with even the most elusive tulip varieties, such as the “Queen of the Night,” this garden boasts a diverse collection of tulips. The enchanting annual festival held in Spring between March and May is the main highlight of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden.

#4 Shankaracharya Temple

The Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar is one of Kashmir’s oldest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is on top of Shankaracharya Hill. People believe that the great philosopher Shankaracharya visited Srinagar about ten centuries ago and named the Jyoteshwar Temple. The Temple houses the Shiva Linga that he worshiped. The shrine provides breathtaking views of the Pir Panjal range’s snow-capped peaks and the valley.

#5 Jamia Masjid

The Jamia Masjid mosque is in Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir, India. Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid has a location in Nowhatta, in the heart of the old city. The Jama Masjid, built in 1394 AD by Sultan Sikandar, is one of the holy mosques for Muslims.

The Jamia Masjid was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style and resembles traditional Buddhist pagodas. Maharana Pratap Singh receives recognition for his role in reconstructing the mosque and preserving its original Indo-Saracenic design.
