One of those cities is Prayagraj, a.k.a. Allahabad, in Uttar Pradesh. This metropolitan city isn’t only home to Hindus but also to Vedic history. It is a holy city in India and has stirred up much debate regarding the name. Some say that Prayagraj was never a city, while others believe that Akbar (Mughal Emperor) changed the name during his reign. This city is famous as it believes to be the Hindu pilgrimage center.

#2 Bade Hanuman Temple

This city is holy, so when people search for the best tourist places in Prayagraj, they often look for temples. Here you’d find the Bade Hanuman Mandir in Bargad Ghat, near the Allahabad Fort and sacred to the natives of this city. There is a huge statue of hanuman ji inside in a leaning position. The best part about this place is that the visitors have to visit the underground for darshan. The red building of this mandir has engravings all over, and visitors get a nice view of a nearby pond.

#3 Triveni Sangam

Triveni Sangam is a Hindi translation of “Merger of Three.” It is a holy place where three rivers meet – Yamuna, Sarasvati, and Ganga. It is one of the most peaceful tourist places in Prayagraj and is famous for Kumbh Mela. Visit here and discover the rituals and beauty of Hinduism. Triveni Sangam’s attractions are Hindu pujas, mythological narrations, holy baths, naga sadhus covered in ashes, rituals, and innumerable pilgrims. According to the Hindu belief, if we dip in the holy water, all the sins wash away.

#4 Iskon Temple

Lord Krishna has Iskon Temples all over the world. One of the gorgeous tourist places in Prayagraj, this is where you’d see thousands of tourists every year. The temple is near the Baluaghat water tank and looks serene with farmland and deity idols. There is a gift shop to take home souvenirs and plenty of guest houses for those who want to stay overnight. Apart from that, the Iskon Temple of Prayagraj also has a nice garden and a Mahaprasad counter from where you can seek the blessings of Krishan Ji.

#5 Akshaya Vat

The Allahabad fort has a Patalpuri temple, and once you go inside, you’ll come across Akshaya Vat. It is a sacred ancient fig tree. Those who have listened to or watched Ramayana would be familiar with this tree. Many devotees worship the tree during Kumbh Mela. It is only open to the public during that time.

#6 Alopi Devi Temple

Alopi Devi Temple has a wooden chariot instead of gods and goddess statues. It is one of the unique tourist places in Prayagraj. Plenty of devotees who believe in and worship Lord Shiva come here to pay their respects. The chariot’s name is doliê, and it has a special mythological story. The mandir is home to the last body parts of Goddess Sati, and that’s why it is also known as the Shakti Peethas in India. The majority of the crowd visits on Tuesdays here.

#7 Khusro Bagh

Khusro Bagh was a burial complex and is now converted into a Mughal Garden. Situated close to the Allahabad railway station, the place has three mausoleums made of sandstones. They pay tribute to several royals of the Mughal Dynasty, including Nithar Begum, Shah Begum, and Khusrau Mirza. They were all related to Jahangir, son of Akbar. Khusro Bagh has three tombs and looks similar to Fatehpur Sikri with traditional motifs, chhatris, and Arabic inscriptions.
