Mysore is a city located in the southern part of India in Karnataka. It was the erstwhile capital of the Kingdom of Mysore and is presently a district headquarters in Mysore District. It is also known as the City of Palaces because of the numerous palaces present in the city, including the world-famous Mysore Palace. #1 Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Mysore. It is also known as the Amba Vilas Palace. It was the official residence of the Wodeyar rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore. The palace is now open to the public as a museum. The Mysore Palace is a large, imposing structure with an imposing main entrance. Two life-size elephants guard the main entrance. The palace’s interior is equally grand, with intricate paintings and carvings adorning the walls and ceilings. The palace also has a Durbar Hall, where the Maharaja used to hold public audiences.

#2 St. Philomena’s Church

St. Philomena’s Church is another famous tourist attraction in Mysore. It is one of the largest churches in India. The church was built in the 19th century by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. The church consists of the Neo-Gothic style of architecture. It has a tall spire that is visible from a distance. The church also has a beautiful stained glass window which is a must-see.

#3 Chamundeshwari Temple

The Chamundeshwari Temple is on the top of the Chamundi Hills. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mysore. The temple is for Goddess Chamundeshwari, the patron goddess of the Wodeyar dynasty. The temple is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple complex also has a statue of the Nandi bull, the Vehicle of Lord Shiva.

#4 Brindavan Gardens

The Brindavan Gardens is outside the city of Mysore, in the town of Mandya. They are also known as the Krishnarajasagar Dam Gardens. The gardens were built in the 20th century by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and have a series of fountains. The gardens also have a light and sound show in the evening, which is a must-see.

#5 Lalitha Mahal

The Lalitha Mahal is one of the most beautiful palaces in Mysore. It was built in the 20th century by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. The palace is a summer retreat for the royal family. The palace is in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. It has a beautiful façade with a series of arches. The palace’s interior is equally stunning, with intricate paintings and carvings.

The Zoological Garden is in the heart of the city of Mysore. It is one of the oldest zoos in India. The zoo was established in the 19th century by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. The zoo is home to various animals, birds, and reptiles. It also has a children’s park, a popular tourist attraction.

#7 Folklore Museum

The Folklore Museum is in the Jaganmohan Palace, built in 1968. The museum is to the preservation and promotion of the folk art and culture of Karnataka. The museum has a collection of folk paintings, musical instruments, puppets, and folk dolls. It also has a library with a group of folk songs and tales.

#8 Railway Museum

The Railway Museum is in the Mysore Junction railway station, built in 1979. The museum is to the history and heritage of the Indian Railways. The museum has a collection of locomotives, carriages, and wagons. It also has a model of the first-ever railway engine of India. The museum also has a library with a collection of books on the history of the Indian Railways.
