History

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is an Indian political alliance of center-right and right-wing political parties. The formation had done in 1998 under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The NDA was treated as an alternative to the ruling coalition of the Indian National Congress (INC) and its allies in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). It has been the ruling coalition in India since 2014, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads its government.

NDA was formed in the wake of the collapse of the United Front government, a coalition of non-BJP parties that had formed the government between 1996 and 1998. Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee created this and was the first non-Congress government to complete a full five-year term. The NDA has had three governments in India since its formation in 1998. Vajpayee led the first from 1999 to 2004. Manmohan Singh led the second from 2004 to 2014, and Modi has led the third since 2014.

The NDA has also been successful in state elections and has been in power in several states since 1998. It has been in power in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Goa. The NDA is a coalition of several parties, including the BJP, Shiv Sena, Shiromani Akali Dal, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party, Apna Dal, and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party. The alliance includes several regional parties, such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Telugu Desam Party.

Structure

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is a political alliance in India formed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several smaller political parties. It was formed in 1998 and currently has 18 constituent parties. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, has led the alliance since 2014. The NDA is a coalition of political parties that work together to achieve common goals. The alliance is under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the largest party in the NDA. Other significant parties in the NDA include the Janata Dal (United), Shiromani Akali Dal, Lok Janshakti Party, and Shiv Sena.

Each member of the NDA has an equal say in the decision-making process, though the BJP is the dominant partner. The BJP leads the NDA in both the Lok Sabha (lower house) and Rajya Sabha (upper house) of the Indian Parliament. The NDA’s commitment is “sab ka Saath, sab ka Vikas” (collective effort, inclusive growth). The alliance focuses more on economic growth, development, social justice, and security. The NDA also commits to the ideals of secularism, democracy, and federalism.
