France is a developed nation in the European Union and has one of the biggest financial markets in the European region. There are more than 400 Banks that are currently working in France. The credit rating agency Moody’s rated France’s banking and financial system as stable because of the stable credit quality and the strength in the bank’s liquidity and asset quality. 1. BNP Paribas

BNP Paribas is the oldest bank operating in the country. The bank was founded in 1848 and now employs around 192,000 employees, which are present in about 74 countries, including Europe and other nations. The groups cover all aspects of banking worldwide, starting from bank deposits, retail banking, and corporate banking. It helps all its clients in lending, transaction advisory, wealth management, and insurance. The bank also has fund management services currently active in some European markets. BNP Paribas enjoys the top position in Europe

Credit Agricole was founded in 1894 and has over 10,000 + employees currently operating. A publicly listed company owns the bank and headquarters in Mont Rouge. The bank also provides retail banking, corporate insurance, and investment banking products in Europe and other markets. The bank serves over 52 million customers worldwide.

3. BPCE

BPCE is also one of France’s leading banks headquartered in Paris. The bank currently has over 117,000 employees and serves over 36 million customers. BPCE offers its customers a wide range of banking and financial products ranging from investment solutions, cash management, servicing financial solutions, and various other services

4. Societe Generale

Societe Generale is also one of the largest banks based in France. The bank, headquartered in the capital city of Paris, currently employs around 146,000 individuals. The bank is majorly into retail banking solutions and ventured into loan syndication and private banking solutions.

5. Groupe Credit Mutuel-CIC

Groupe Credit Mutuel-CIC was founded in the year 1645, which makes it the oldest bank currently operating in France. The bank has an employee strength of around 70,000 + individuals across 4,000 branches. The bank has a product range from personal or private banking to real estate lending and technological services.

6. Credit Mutuel

Credit Mutuel has an employee strength of over 10,000+ employees. The bank was formed under a partnership structure. The bank was founded in the year 1645 and had its headquarters in the city of Strasbourg. The bank has a customer base of 8 million customers worldwide

7. Credit Cooperatif

Credit Cooperatif is one of the cooperative banks operating in France. The bank established itself in 1989 and employed a staff of around 2,000+ individuals. The bank’s major objective is to develop mutual organizations, small businesses, trade associations, and work committees. The bank operates as a privately held institution.

8. La Banque Postale

La Banques Postale was founded in 2006 and is a subsidiary of La Poste, the country’s national postal service. The bank is into retail banking, insurance, and asset management. The bank has its headquarters in Paris and employs 27,000 individuals.

9. AXA Banque

AXA Banque was founded in 2002 and offers savings accounts, real estate services, and personal loans. The bank operates in around 64 countries and serves over 100 million customers. The bank also has an employee count of 150,000+ staff operating currently.

10. Credit du Nord

Credit du Nord was founded in the year 1848 and is headquartered in Lille. The bank is a chain of several banks operating in the country and serves around 1.5 million customers in more than 700 stores. Société Générale mainly owns the bank.
